Burke won't return as Bombers coach

Winnipeg, MB ( - Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach Tim Burke will not return in 2014.

The club made the announcement Wednesday after the Bombers finished the 2013 season with a league-worst 3-15 record.

Burke was promoted from defensive coordinator to interim head coach in August 2012 and was given the full-time job in November 2012.

"We thank Tim for his passion, hard work and professionalism throughout the past year and a half he has been in this role," said Bombers president and CEO Wade Miller. "If an opportunity does arise for him to join our staff as a defensive coordinator, our organization would definitely be open to exploring this with Tim."

Burke first joined the coaching staff prior to the 2011 season as defensive coordinator. He spent three years in the same role with Montreal, helping the Alouettes to three straight Grey Cup trips and back-to-back championships in 2009-10.

"I've really enjoyed my time in Winnipeg and am grateful for the opportunity this franchise gave me," said Burke.

Burke's CFL experience also includes three seasons with Calgary as defensive backs coach and an interim defensive coordinator stint with the Stampeders in 2007.
