Stamps' Cornish, Lewis out vs. Argos

Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - The Calgary Stampeders announced that running back Jon Cornish and slotback Nik Lewis will not play on Friday in their Grey Cup rematch against the Toronto Argonauts.

Cornish stated his absence will be due to overuse of his surgically repaired leg rather than any bruising or specific injury.

The seven-year pro ran for 175 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-27 victory over Saskatchewan on Aug. 9, but he was limited to 73 yards and one score in a 26-22 loss to British Columbia last Saturday. He has totaled 749 yards and eight scores on 108 carries this season.

"It's something that you have to contend with," said Calgary head coach John Hufnagel. "Injuries happen in football no matter what names they are. We've said this all along -- you cannot be concerned about it. I have 42 healthy guys, they've prepared themselves to play this football game, they've prepared themselves to win this football game. Now we have to go out and do it against a very, very good opponent."

Matt Walter and Jonathan Williams will split time in Cornish's place, according to Hufnagel.

Lewis will be lost for the next six games after he suffered a broken fibula in that loss at Vancouver. He underwent surgery on Thursday in Calgary to correct the issue.

The 31-year-old has totaled 400 yards and three TDs on 32 reception thus far in 2013.
