Description: The Philadelphia Inquirer reported this week that Westbrook has expressed a desire to return to the Eagles. The veteran is headed for unrestricted free agency, whenever that opens.
Insight: Westbrook didn't offer much fantasy value outside of one big Monday night game following Frank Gore's injury. In Philly -- and probably anywhere else -- he'd be a low-impact backup. (

Insight: Westbrook should continue playing, it just won't be for the 49ers. He had some big moments in 2010, but he just isn't the player he used to be. Anthony Dixon is the bruiser that is a perfect fit in Harbaugh's new grind-it-out offense. He'll be Frank Gore's backup this year.

Description: CSN Bay Area reports Westbrook is considered "doubtful" to return to the 49ers for the 2011 season.
Insight: Westbrook was fairly productive when given the opportunity in 2010, but he remains a big injury risk. (

Insight: People jumped on the Westbrook bandwagon after his 23 carry-136 yard-1 touchdown performance in Week Twelve against the Cardinals, but he really didn't do a whole lot after that, except when he faced the Cards again in Week Seventeen. He can still be used on passing downs, but the team needs to get Anthony Dixon more involved with the new run-first mentality Jim Harbaugh is expected to use in 2011.

Insight: A free agent this offseason, Westbrook has shown he still has something left in the tank as evidenced by his two-touchdown performance against Arizona Sunday. Although, we aren't sure if he can be an every-down back without breaking down as the season wears on. He may have to settle into a committee to keep himself as injury free as possible. GM Trent Baalke has informed Westbrook that it will be up to the new coaching staff whether he stays in San Francisco or not.

Description: Westbrook had 13 carries for 79 yards and two touchdowns and one catch for 14 yards against Arizona on Sunday.
Insight: Westbrook had two big games against Arizona after Frank Gore (hip) was lost for the season, but did not do much otherwise in an expanded role. (

Insight: Westy is getting some extra rest in preparation for the Rams, a game that actually still has playoff ramifications. Anthony Dixon was also out with an ankle injury, but he could be limited on gameday. Westbrook figures to have solid RB2 value in PPR leagues and is a nice flex option in non.
12/17/2010 12:05:00 AM
Description: Westbrook had eight carries for 22 yards and a touchdown along with two catches for eight yards against the Chargers on Thursday night.
Insight: Westbrook did not have a good yardage day at all, but the touchdown salvaged something for fantasy owners that used him. (
12/13/2010 11:02:00 AM
Description: Westbrook (ankle) had nine carries for 23 yards along with six catches for 87 yards and a touchdown against the Seahawks on Sunday.
Insight: Westbrook is definitely worth adding if you need RB depth, but do still be aware of his injury history. (
12/6/2010 12:01:00 PM
Description: Westbrook (ankle) had nine carries for 31 yards against Green Bay on Sunday.
Insight: Westbrook was a hot pick-up after last Monday night's re-emergence, and he is still worth a roster spot in most leagues. (

Description: According to 49ers HC Mike Singletary, RB Brian Westbrook (ankle) is taking it easy in practice this week because of the short week. SOURCE: SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE
Insight: Several players have been resting this week. Westbrook is still expected to get the start against the Packers and see a decent amount of touches on the ground and in the air, making him a better option in PPR leagues.

Description: Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports Westbrook (ankle) was held out of practice again on Thursday.
Insight: Westbrook is expected to start on Sunday against Green Bay, but Friday's injury and practice reports should tell us for sure. (

Description: The 49ers kept RB Brian Westbrook out of practice Wednesday because of an ankle injury. SOURCE: TWITTER
Insight: Westbrook was reportedly held out as a "safety precaution on a short week," but this still tells us that the Westbrook of old is still around. It's hard to rank him as anything more than a PPR flex against a strong Packers team. Anthony Dixon could turn out to be the better option during fantasy playoffs.
12/1/2010 9:02:00 PM
Description: David White of the San Francisco Chronicle reports Westbrook (ankle) was held out of Wednesday's practice with an ankle injury.
Insight: This serves as a reminder of Westbrook's injury history, and makes it unlikely he'll see close to the 23 carries he saw on Monday night on Sunday against Green Bay. (
11/30/2010 10:03:00 AM
Description: Westbrook had 23 carries for 136 yards and a touchdown against Arizona on Monday night.
Insight: Westbrook is the 49ers' new No. 1 running back with Frank Gore (hip) out, and he should be added in most leagues. The main concern is his ability to stay healthy. (
10/7/2010 3:05:00 PM
Description: Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area thinks Westbrook will have a bigger role this week.
Insight: Westbrook has hardly played this season despite apparently being healthy, so we'll believe this when we see it. (
9/9/2010 9:00:00 AM
Description: The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports 49ers' head coach Mike Singletary said Westbrook (hamstring) will play on Sunday against Seattle.
Insight: Westbrook is already dealing with an injury, which makes Anthony Dixon the frontrunner to be Frank Gore's backup. (

Description: 49ers RB Brian Westbrook (hamstring) will be available to play Week One. SOURCE: SANTA ROSA PRESS-DEMOCRAT
Insight: Westbrook suffered a cramp in his hamstring and hasn't had much practice time in a new offense. We really don't expect him to see a lot of action this week even if he did.
9/2/2010 6:02:00 PM
Description: Westbrook came out of the Aug 29th preseason game with a hamstring cramp. He is day to day at this point.
8/16/2010 9:50:00 PM
Description: NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports, via Twitter, that the 49ers have signed Westbrook to a one-year, $1.25 million contract, with another $1.25 million available in incentives.
Insight: With Glen Coffee's sudden retirement last week, the 49ers needed some depth at RB. But rookie Anthony Dixon is still likely to be Frank Gore's primary backup and primary "handcuff." (Rapid
