Browns match Jaguars' offer for Mack
Berea, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Cleveland Browns will match the Jacksonville Jaguars' offer sheet for Pro Bowl center Alex Mack that he signed Friday.
Terms of the contract were not disclosed, but sources said the five-year deal is for $42 million.
The Browns had five days to match, but opted not to wait.
The deal includes $18 million guaranteed over the first two years with a player option after 2015, according to NFL.com. Mack can void the final three years of the deal and can't be traded.
Mack was designated Cleveland's transition player and was set to earn about $10 million in 2014 under that tag. The Browns wouldn't have received compensation if they decided not to match the offer.
The 28-year-old veteran was selected by the Browns with the 21st overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft and has started every game since his rookie season.
