NFL suspends Bucs' Goldson after helmet-to-helmet hit

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson has been suspended one game for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White in Sunday's 41-28 home win, the NFL announced on Monday.

The violation of unnecessary contact was the third Goldson has been penalized for by the league office. Goldson was fined $30,000 for striking a defenseless player in the head and neck area in Week 1 against the New York Jets.

He was then initially suspended for one game for making direct, helmet-to- helmet contact to a defensless player in Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints, but the violation was reduced to a $100,000 fine after an appeal.

Goldson may not participate in any football activities during the suspension, which will take place this Sunday against the Detroit Lions. He will be reinstated on Nov. 25.

Goldson has played in eight games this season in his first year with Tampa Bay, recording 50 tackles (39 solo) with one forced fumble and an interception.
