American League Game Summary - Texas at Houston
(Saturday, August 9)
Final Score: Houston 8, Texas 3
Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Jon Singleton drove in three runs and Scott Feldman outdueled Yu Darvish as the Houston Astros were 8-3 winners over the Texas Rangers on Saturday.
Feldman (6-8) limited his former team to three runs while striking out six over 6 1/3 innings for the Astros, who have taken the first two games of this three-game set after dropping three straight to the Phillies.
Feldman spent the first eight seasons of his career pitching for Texas.
Darvish (10-7) lasted just four-plus innings for his second shortest outing of the season. The Rangers ace gave up six runs -- five earned -- on nine hits before giving way to the bullpen. Shin-Soo Choo had four hits in the setback.
"Yu Darvish is human," said Rangers manager Ron Washington. "He can have a bad night."
Walks to Robbie Grossman and Chris Carter in the first inning led to a pair of early runs for Houston. Darvish picked up two outs by fanning Jason Castro and Marc Krauss, but Singleton grounded an RBI single past a diving Rougned Odor on the first pitch he saw. Carter then scampered home when Odor's flip to Elvis Andrus covering second on a Matt Dominguez chopper got away.
"I think that Grossman set the tone tonight with that first at-bat," Astros manager Bo Porter said. "That is some kind of (at-bat). I think the rest of the guys just followed suit."
The margin held until the home half of the fifth, when consecutive singles and a walk to lead off the frame put Darvish in a bases-loaded jam with no outs. Singleton doubled in a pair of runs and Dominguez singled home Krauss to make it 5-0 and end Darvish's stint. Nate Adcock came on and served up Marwin Gonzalez's RBI single.
Jim Adduci's first career home run in the top of the sixth put Texas on the board. With Daniel Robertson on first and two outs, Adduci stepped in and ripped a liner just over the wall in right.
Grossman scored on a Krauss groundout in the bottom of the sixth. Texas got the run back on Andrus' sacrifice fly.
Carter ripped a two-bagger to the wall in left-center to score Grossman in the home eighth for the final run of the contest. Grossman scored three runs.
Texas left fielder Mike Carp left the game in the third inning with a left groin injury ... The Rangers fell to 2-6 on their nine-game road trip ... Texas finished 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
