Padres avoid sweep from Marlins on Amarista HR

Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Alexi Amarista hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning to help the San Diego Padres overtake the Miami Marlins, 4-2, and avoid a sweep of the three-game series.

Yonder Alonso picked up an RBI despite not recording a hit in four plate appearances. Amarista had the only extra base hit for the Padres, who snapped a four-game skid.

Ian Kennedy (1-1) picked up his first win of the season, yielding one run on three hits through six innings of work while picking up five strikeouts.

The Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton went 1-for-4 with a run-scoring single, which gave him an RBI in each of the first seven games. Jeff Baker drove in the other run in his lone at-bat for Miami, which had won five straight against the Padres coming in.

Nathan Eovaldi (1-1) threw six scoreless innings before surrendering Amarista's homer in the seventh. Eovaldi struck out eight and allowed six hits through seven frames without issuing a walk.
