Baseball 2014: From Sydney to September
New York, NY (Sports Network) - Major League Baseball has revealed its 2014 schedule, which will begin with the previously announced two-game set between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers in Sydney and will end on Sept. 28.
The first MLB games in Australia, announced in June, will take place March 22-23, a week before the stateside opener on Sunday night, March 30. The teams for ESPN's stand-alone opener will be determined at a later date.
A total of 14 games will be played on Monday, March 31, including an interleague contest between Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers in Arlington. Other matchups on the first Monday feature the traditional opener in Cincinnati with the Cardinals as the guest, Atlanta at Milwaukee, Cleveland at Oakland and a battle between Colorado and Miami -- the 1993 expansion clubs -- in South Florida.
Nine games are on the docket for Tuesday, April 1, including the lid-lifter for the New York Yankees and Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park.
The 2014 All-Star Game is set for July 15 at Target Field in Minneapolis.
An early start for the season also allows for the World Series to completed before November.
The complete schedule, including start times, will be released in January.
