Rockies' Tulowitzki headed to DL with broken rib
Denver, CO (Sports Network) - The Colorado Rockies' 5-4 loss to the Washington Nationals on Thursday was literally painful.
Outfielders Carlos Gonzalez (foot) and Dexter Fowler (hand) and shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (rib) suffered injuries during the game.
The news got worse Thursday night when MLB.com reported that Tulowitzki has a broken rib on his right side. He is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks.
Tulowitzki suffered the injury while diving for a grounder in the eighth inning. He left the game after the inning.
Tulowitzki went 1-for-3 with a run scored and finished the day with a .347 batting average. He also has 16 home runs and 51 RBI in 61 games this season.
Gonzalez was diagnosed with a left foot contusion. The injury occurred in the bottom of the first inning with Gonzalez on deck. Jordan Pacheco's foul liner struck Gonzalez near the ankle. Gonzalez was unable to bat and Tyler Colvin took his place.
X-rays were negative. Gonzalez is hitting .299 with a team-leading 18 homers and 52 RBI.
Fowler was removed from the game in the fifth inning, two frames after being hit on the right knuckle on his ring finger by a Ross Detwiler pitch.
Precautionary X-rays were negative and Fowler is listed as day-to-day. He is hitting .302 with 10 home runs and 26 RBI.
