Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Juvonte Reddic recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Virginia Commonwealth Rams who bested the Belmont Bruins, 81-68, at Curb Event Center.
Reddic shot 7-of-13 from the field and 4-of-4 at the free-throw line for the Rams (6-2). Treveon Graham notched 16 points and nine rebounds. Melvin Johnson and JeQuan Lewis added 16 and 12 points, respectively.
Blake Jenkins and JJ Mann each contributed 14 points to the Bruins (7-2) offense. Drew Windler logged 13 points and nine rebounds. Caleb Chowbay and Evan Bradds added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Belmont hit 13-of-23 from the field in the first half, including 6-of-9 from 3-point range. VCU went 13-of-33 from the floor, but was successful at the line on 9-of-10 opportunities. The Bruins struggled to hang onto the ball, turning it over 14 times in the first 20 minutes, and they trailed 38-35 at halftime.
VCU got its offense into gear in the second half, shooting 16-of-26 from the field (61.5 percent), including 4-of-8 from long range. In turn, the Bruins shot a dismal 36.4 percent from the floor and watched the game slip out of reach. The Rams led by as many as 15 points with just under three minutes to play.
The Rams shot 16-of-18 at the stripe for the contest, much better than the Bruins who were 7-of-13. They also outscored the Belmont in points off turnovers 21-13, a critical stat in VCU's decisive victory.
