American League Game Summary - Baltimore at Seattle
(Sunday, July 27)
Final Score: Baltimore 3, Seattle 2 (10 innings)
Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Manny Machado's sacrifice fly in the 10th inning helped the Baltimore Orioles to a 3-2 win in the finale of a four-game series with the Seattle Mariners on Sunday.
With Yoervis Medina (4-2) on the mound, Adam Jones doubled while Nelson Cruz and Chris Davis walked to load the bases. J.J. Hardy then popped out, but Machado lofted a fly ball deep to center that was caught, but Jones trotted home for the easy run and a 3-2 lead.
Zach Britton struck out the side in the home half for his 20th save of the season.
"I think the bullpen is great," Machado said. "Once we give them that lead I think they have a pretty good shot of holding it, and that's what they've been doing."
Jones scored twice, Machado drove in two, and Jonathan Schoop had two hits and an RBI for the Orioles, who nabbed three of four in the set and have won five of seven, overall.
Miguel Gonzalez gave up a run on eight hits over six innings of work, while T.J. McFarland (4-2) worked a flawless ninth to pick up the win.
Mike Zunino went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, and Chris Taylor also drove in a run for the Mariners, who have lost five of their last six games. Roenis Elias gave up a run on four hits with three walks and six strikeouts over five innings.
"(Elias) threw the ball really well today," said Zunino. "He had all three pitches working for strikes."
The Mariners got on the board in the second inning on Taylor's RBI double that plated Logan Morrison, for a 1-0 lead.
Baltimore answered in the third as Machado singled, moved to third on Caleb Joseph's double to left, and crossed the plate on a single from Schoop.
The score stayed that way until the eighth when Machado beat out a bases- loaded single with two outs to score Jones for a 2-1 lead, but Zunino hit a two-out, solo home run in the eighth to tie the game once again.
Baltimore, which went 6-4 on a 10-game road trip, returns home to face the Angels for three games starting on Tuesday ... Seattle hits the road to start a three-game series in Cleveland on Tuesday ... Both teams left 11 men on base, as Baltimore was 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position, while Seattle went 1-for-7.
