Gardner earns AL Player of the Week honors

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner was named the American League Player of the Week on Monday.

Gardner captured his second career weekly honor after batting .478 (11-for-23) with five home runs, three doubles and eight runs scored. He also drove in seven runs and walked five times.

Gardner's last weekly honor came last season for the week ending June 9, 2013.

The lefty led the majors in slugging percentage (1.261) during the week and tied for the lead in homers and total bases (29).

Gardner's teammate Carlos Beltran, Chicago's Adam Eaton and Alexei Ramirez, Cleveland's Corey Kluber, Minnesota's Kyle Gibson, and Kansas City's Greg Holland were also considered for the award.
