NHL Game Summary - Anaheim at Calgary
(Thursday, January 12th)
Final Score: Calgary 1, Anaheim 0 (OT)
Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Blair Jones scored the game-winner 1:51 into
overtime as the Calgary Flames took a 1-0 win over Anaheim.
Mark Giordano brought the puck into the Anaheim end and from the left circle
left a drop pass for Jones, who skated over to the top of the circle before
snapping a wrister on net. Jonas Hiller made the stop, but Jones
followed up the shot by roofing his own rebound on the backhand for the win.
Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 23 shots for his third shutout of the season for the
Flames, who have won three straight.
"Most important thing for us was to go out and get done what we needed to
tonight and that was to get two points and win the hockey game," Flames head
coach Brent Sutter said.
Hiller made 18 saves in the loss for the Ducks, who had a three-game winning
streak stopped.
"It's a game of inches and it could have gone either way, but we didn't win
it," Ducks head coach Bruce Boudreau said. "We got a point, but at this stage
of the game, I think we need two."
Neither team was able to generate much in the way of offense through
regulation as Calgary managed just 11 shots in the first two periods before
matching that effort in the third. Anaheim had a paltry six shots in the first
and second while getting nine on net in the third.
During the game, Calgary announced an unexpected deal, landing forward
Mike Cammalleri from the Montreal Canadiens along with goaltender Karri Ramo
and a fifth-round draft pick in 2012.
Heading to Montreal were forwards Rene Bourque and Patrick Holland along with
a second-round draft pick in 2013.
