NFL Game Summary - Indianapolis at St. Louis
(Sunday, October 25th)
Final Score: Indianapolis 42, St. Louis 6
St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Peyton Manning authored another solid performance, tossing for 235 yards and three touchdowns, as the Indianapolis Colts remained unbeaten with a 42-6 thrashing of the winless St. Louis Rams at the Edward Jones Dome.
Manning connected on 23 of his 34 pass attempts, while Joseph Addai added a rushing score for the Colts (6-0), who boast a 15-game regular-season winning streak. Reggie Wayne had seven receptions for 83 yards and a touchdown.
"I think we did most things pretty well," said Colts head coach Jim Caldwell. "We ran the ball decently. We were able to move the ball when we had opportunities."
Marc Bulger struggled under center for the Rams (0-7), completing 14-of-26 passes for 140 yards with two costly interceptions. One was returned for a touchdown by rookie cornerback Jacob Lacey and another came in the red zone.
"The first three quarters I thought we battled really hard," said Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo. "(The Colts) are a good football team, we all know that, but for three quarters I thought we all felt and believed we could possibly pull that thing off and win the game. Now the fourth quarter was different. They made some plays and things kind of fell apart."
Steven Jackson had 23 carries for a season-high 134 yards for St. Louis, which has dropped 17 straight games dating back to last season.
Manning was nearly irrepressible Sunday, throwing touchdown passes on the Colts' first two possessions, with Josh Brown booting a 30-yard field goal in between for St. Louis.
Indianapolis got the ball to begin the game and Manning led the Colts on an efficient 12-play, 90-yard drive that culminated in a six-yard toss to Wayne.
After Brown split the uprights on the Rams' first series, Indy started its second offensive sequence at its own 22. Manning completed an 11-yard pass to Dallas Clark on first down and rookie running back Donald Brown surged 45 yards to the St. Louis 22 on the next play. Following a delay of game penalty, Manning floated a pass to Clark in the end zone with 3:31 remaining in the opening quarter.
On the initial play following the two-minute warning, Addai scampered for a six-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 21-3 at halftime.
Brown drilled a 45-yard field goal after the break, but Lacey picked off a Bulger pass on the Rams' next drive and returned the ball 35 yards with 60 seconds left in the third. It was the first interception of Lacey's career.
Austin Collie had an eight-yard scoring reception and Chad Simpson tacked on a 31-yard touchdown run for Indy in the final frame.
