NFL Game Summary - Buffalo at Jacksonville
(Sunday, November 22nd)
Final Score: Jacksonville 18, Buffalo 15
Jacksonville, FL (Sports Network) - Mike Sims-Walker's three-yard TD catch in
the final minute of regulation lifted Jacksonville over Buffalo, 18-15, at
Jacksonville Municipal Stadium.
David Garrard finished 21-of-30 for 215 yards and the key touchdown throw for
the Jaguars (6-4), who have won three straight games.
Sims-Walker finished with 91 yards and the score on eight catches while
Maurice Jones-Drew was limited to 66 yards rushing on 25 attempts but scored
once.
"What a great comeback victory today," said Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio.
"Good football teams have to find a way at the end of ballgames to win. We got
the score we needed, got the two-pointer we needed, and the defense did its
job when we needed at the end."
Ryan Fitzpatrick was 18-of-31 for 297 yards, one touchdown and two
interceptions for the Bills (3-7), who have dropped three in a row and could
not produce a win in Perry Fewell's head-coaching debut. Fewell was named to
the post Tuesday after the Bills fired Dick Jauron.
"I spent most of the week with all levels. It's an emotional loss for sure.
They battled to the very end but didn't get it done," Fewell said about his
first game at the helm. "It wasn't about me. It was about us. I don't know it
was hard, but it was exciting. I was into the game for 60 solid minutes and
they (players and coaches) made it easy for me."
The loss spoiled Terrell Owens' best game with Buffalo, as he racked up 197
yards and one score on nine catches, including a career-best 98-yard touchdown
reception.
Trailing by five, Jacksonville appeared poised to take the lead back midway
through the fourth after reaching the Bills' 21, but Garrard was stripped on a
rush and Buffalo recovered at the 20. However, the Jags defense held the
visitors to a three-and-out.
Starting from their own 32 after the punt, the home team moved 68 yards in 12
plays and took a 16-15 lead with 56 seconds remaining as Garrard found Sims-
Walker in the back of the end zone. Garrard's conversion run then pushed the
lead to 18-15.
Owens picked up a first down on a 15-yard catch to the Jags' 46 on the first
play of the Bills' drive. A spike and two incompletions preceded Anthony
Smith's interception off a tipped pass on 4th-and-10 to wrap up the game.
Sean Considine's snag of Fitzpatrick's pass on the first series of the game
gave the Jags the ball on the Buffalo 28 and Josh Scobee capped the drive with
a 29-yard field goal.
Rian Lindell hit from 26 yards to put Buffalo on the board with 4:36 to play
in the first quarter, then his 28-yarder moved Buffalo in front 6-3 with 1:59
left.
The Jags followed up by going 78 yards in 12 plays over 7 1/2 minutes and took
a 10-6 lead on a three-yard run by Jones-Drew early in the second. Lindell was
good from 22 yards out on the final play of the half for a 10-9 game.
Buffalo's first drive of the second half began at the two before Fitzpatrick
unloaded deep and found Owens in stride for a 98-yard touchdown and a 15-10
lead after the conversion pass failed.
