Bucs place RB James on injured reserve

Tampa, FL ( - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed running back Mike James on injured reserve Wednesday.

The move comes less than 48 hours after James left Monday night's victory over the Miami Dolphins in the first quarter with a fractured ankle.

James carried the ball five times for 41 yards on the opening possession. On the play he was injured, James rushed up the middle for three yards down to the Miami 1-yard line. Dolphins linebacker Dannell Ellerbe tackled James from behind and appeared to land on the back's left ankle.

Bucs head coach Greg Schiano confirmed the severity of the injury after the game.

James completes the 2013 season having totaled 295 yards on 60 carries and 43 yards on 10 receptions. He also threw for a two-yard TD at Seattle on Nov. 3.

To fill the open roster spot, Tampa signed running back Michael Hill from the Green Bay Packers' practice squad. Hill was an undrafted free agent who signed with San Diego's practice squad, then was signed to the Packers' active roster and participated in two games. He was demoted to Green Bay's practice squad on Oct. 22.

With Doug Martin and James on injured reserve, Brian Leonard and Bobby Rainey are the only healthy running backs on the Tampa Bay roster.
