Description: Gaudin allowed four runs - one earned - and four hits over five innings of Thursday's loss to the Colorado Rockies. He walked four and struck out eight.
Insight: Gaudin, who fell to 4-8 on the season, was the victim of two errors, including one by Gold Glove first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. He made some mistakes of his own, though, including a bases-loaded walk to the opposing pitcher, Aaron Cook. Gaudin's given up just 76 hits in 87 1/3 innings this season, but his 48 walks have gotten him into trouble. (SportsBuff.com)

Description: The Cubs released Gaudin. The right-handed reliever had a 6.26 ERA in 24 appearances with the Cubs in 2008 after coming from Oakland with Rich Harden.
Insight: Gaudin is just 26 years old and will probably find a homer sooner rather than later. He was effective with Oakland and started 34 games in 2007. His career WHIP of 1.52 is problematic. (SportsBuff.com)

Description: Manager Lou Piniella told the Chicago Sun-Times that Gaudin is falling behind in his effort to be the Cubs fifth starter.
Insight: No surprise here. After coming over from Oakland with Rich Harden, Gaudin didn't start any games for the Cubs. He'll be a middle reliver with moderate value this year. (SportsBuff.com)
