Description: Kyle McClellan has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left hip flexor strain. SOURCE: Rotoworld
Insight: McClellan has struggled since opening the season 5-0 and perhaps it's because of this injury which will keep him out until mid-June at the least. When things go right for him, he is valuable in mixed fantasy formats.

Description: Cardinals SP Kyle McClellan, who is 6-2 with a 3.86 ERA in his first year in the rotation, strained a hip flexor muscle in the first inning Monday against San Francisco when he landed awkwardly; he was placed on the DL today. SOURCE: Yahoo Sports
Insight: Depending on the severity of the injury, expect McClellan to miss 2-4 weeks; adjust your rosters accordingly.
5/19/2011 8:43:00 PM
Description: Kyle McClellan pitched eight innings of five hit baseball in Thursday's win over the Astros, bringing his record to 6-1.
Insight: McClellan is having a very nice season and needs to be considered for shallower mixed leagues.
5/9/2011 10:54:00 AM
Description: Kyle McCllellan went 8 strong innings on Sunday against the Brewers only allowing one run and picking up his 5th victory of the season.
Insight: With Wainwright out, this is exactly what the Cards needed to help keep them near or at the top of the NL Central standings. McCllellan is making alot of fantasy owners look brilliant. Dave Duncan does it again.
4/12/2011 9:10:00 AM
Description: Cardinals SP Kyle McClellan allowed 7 hits and walked 4 in 6 innings of work, allowing the Diamondbacks to score just one run, to pick up the victory; he struck out 4.
Insight: McClellan should be a solid pitcher for the Cardinals and should be owned in every NL-only format. In mixed leagues, for now, he is a spot-starter when the match-up is right. It would not be surprising, however, to see him succeed with the magic of Dave Duncan behind him.
4/5/2011 10:08:00 PM
Description: Cards RHP Kyle McClellan went six innings against the Pirates on Tuesday and only allowed two runs on six hits and struck out seven.
Insight: The Cardinals righty was one of the more reliable setup man last year and a quality back of the rotation starter that you can get for cheap in 2011.
3/27/2011 7:32:00 PM
Description: Kyle McClellan allowed one run over six innings today, ending spring training with a 0.78 ERA.
Insight: The Cardinals have clearly found Adam Wainwright's replacement and McClellan is worth a pick up in mixed leagues after such a good spring. His first start is expected to come at home against Pittsburgh.
3/20/2011 5:34:00 PM
Description: Cardinals SP Kyle McClellan threw five shutout innings against the Red Sox, who played most of their regulars. SOURCE: Yahoo Sports
Insight: McClellan should be owned in all NL-only formats and is worth a late round flier in mixed leagues.
3/15/2011 2:13:00 PM
Description: Kyle McLellan allowed one hit during five shutout innings today.
Insight: He has given the Cardinals every reason to stick with him as their fifth starter. They will miss him in the bullpen but relievers are easier to trade for than starters. He is a nice sleeper as a starting pitcher working with pitching coach Dave Duncan.

Description: Kyle McClellan will get the first chance to win Adam Wainwright's vacated rotation spot. SOURCE: JON HEYMAN
Insight: The Cards will evaluate McClellan and other internal candidates for two weeks before they decide if they need to look outside the organization. McClellan would be a decent sleeper for deeper leagues if he can win the job.
3/29/2010 10:52:00 AM
Description: The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports Cardinals' manager Tony LaRussa has confirmed that McClellan will move to the bullpen after Monday's game against the Twins.
Insight: This seems to guarantee that Jaime Garcia will be the Cardinals' No. 5 starter, with McClellan serving as a right-handed set-up man for closer Ryan Franklin. (
3/24/2010 8:01:00 PM
Description: McClellan pitched three scoreless innings out of the bullpen on Wednesday against Baltimore.
Insight: McClellan is in the mix to become the No. 5 starter for the Cardinals, but the team may need him in the bullpen. (
3/20/2010 1:36:00 AM
Description: McClellan allowed three runs-two earned-over four innings against the Nationals on Friday night.
Insight: McClellan also walked four and threw only 37 of his 72 pitches for strikes. He still may be the favorite to be the Cardinals' fifth starter, but Jaime Garcia is also in contention and has looked good this spring. (
3/7/2010 10:32:00 PM
Description: McClellan pitched three scoreless innings, striking out four, in Sunday's game against Florida
Insight: McLellan is now the frontrunner to become the Cardinals' No. 5 starter. (
Steady2/13/2009 11:54:00 PM
Description: McClellan will serve as the Cardinals starting safety net if something should happen to Chris Carpenter, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Insight: As a rookie last season with St. Louis, McClellan appeared in 68 games out of the pen and had 30 holds. He also struck out 59 batters in 75.2 innings. McClellan strikes me as a below average starting possibility. (
