National League Game Summary - Miami at Colorado
(Friday, August 22)
Final Score: Miami 13, Colorado 5
Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Marcell Ozuna had three hits and knocked in five runs, the last four on a grand slam in the ninth inning that punctuated Miami's 13-5 win over Colorado on Friday to open a three-game series.
Giancarlo Stanton added three hits, three RBI and three runs scored for the Marlins, who have won four of their last five.
"When we play together, we win more games and do a better job," said Ozuna.
Henderson Alvarez (10-5) picked up his fourth straight win despite allowing 10 hits and four runs in six innings. The right-hander struck out five, walked none and helped himself with a sacrifice fly to score a run.
Justin Morneau and Corey Dickerson each hit a two-run homer for the Rockies, who have lost two of three. Franklin Morales (5-7) was knocked around for six runs on eight hits without escaping the fifth inning.
Morales walked two batters and Rockies pitchers issued nine free passes in the game.
"Certainly we didn't have good command tonight," said Rockies manager Walt Weiss.
The Marlins loaded the bases on three consecutive singles in the second inning and took a 2-0 lead after Donovan Solano's fielder's choice and Alvarez's sac fly.
They also scored two runs in the third inning -- the first after Jeff Baker and Stanton hit consecutive doubles with no outs and the second on Ozuna's sac fly.
Colorado trimmed Miami's lead to 4-2 on Morneau's lined two-run shot to right field in the third.
Morales came out after walking Casey McGehee on a 3-2 pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth inning and Brooks Brown also walked in a run to give the Marlins a 6-2 lead.
The Rockies again cut their deficit to a pair of runs on Dickerson's two-run blast in the bottom of the fifth, his 18th homer of the season.
But Solano hit an RBI double in the seventh to make it 7-4 and Miami scored six in the ninth to turn the game into a rout.
Miami out-hit Colorado 16-13 ... The Rockies were 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position ... The Marlins, who were coming off a 6-3 homestand, started a nine-game road trip.
