Pirates reach long-awaited milestone in win over Brewers
Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Travis Snider came off the bench and clubbed a home run to lead off the top of the ninth inning, helping the Pittsburgh Pirates secure their first non-losing season since 1992 with a 4-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.
Snider's pinch-hit blast to right-center field off Jim Henderson (3-5) was the only hit that didn't come from the Pirates' 3-4-5 combo of Andrew McCutchen, Justin Morneau and Marlon Byrd. The trio finished 7-for-10, with McCutchen launching his 100th career home run and Byrd collecting two RBI. The rest of the team was 1-for-24.
The win was the 81st of the season for Pittsburgh, which is now two games up on St. Louis for first place in the NL Central. The Cardinals lost to the Reds in Cincinnati earlier Tuesday.
