Sanchez's HR helps IL win Triple-A All-Star Game
Reno, NV (Sports Network) - Tony Sanchez belted a three-run homer off Jarred Cosart in the second inning to carry the International League over the Pacific Coast League, 4-3, at the Triple-A All-Star Game Wednesday night.
Cosart was charged with three hits, a pair of walks and four runs over 1 2/3 innings in the start for the PCL.
There was plenty of attention on Cosart, who took a no-hitter into the seventh inning for the Houston Astros in his major league debut last Friday in a 2-1 win over Tampa Bay. He suffered the loss Wednesday night.
International League starter Greg Reynolds lasted one frame, but was credited with the win. Reynolds, who plays for Louisville in Cincinnati's minor league system, surrendered three hits and a pair of runs.
The International League got home-field advantage for the championship series.
Chris Colabello knocked in the other run for the IL with a first-inning groundout.
The PCL went ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the first. Nick Buss, Chris Owings and Brett Pill had consecutive singles to start the frame, which resulted in a run. Owings scored on Brock Peterson's groundout.
In the second, Zach Walters singled and Jason Pridie walked, both with one out. Sanchez, a catcher for Indianapolis, the Triple-A club of the Pittsburgh Pirates, belted a first-pitch offering over the wall in right field to account for a 4-2 lead.
Johnny Monell's groundout scored Michael Choice in the bottom of the fourth, but the International League held on. The PCL stranded a runner at third in the sixth inning. They didn't get a hit after that frame and Preston Guilmet came in from the bullpen to record the final out for the save.
