Opening day features track improvements
Hallandale Beach, FL (Sports Network) - Opening day of Gulfstream Park's 2012/13 racing season on Saturday, Dec. 1 will feature improvements to enhance the customers' racing enjoyment.
"Gulfstream Park and The Stronach Group are committed to finding ways to upgrade our state-of-the-art facility and making customer service a priority," said Gulfstream President Tim Ritvo.
Among the improvements at the South Florida track are a new 25-table Fountain Club restaurant overlooking the walking ring and 32 box suites overlooking the finish line.
"Our customers wanted a unique dining experience near our walking ring that overlooks the fountain and the horses," Ritvo noted. "The Fountain Club will provide such a location. Meanwhile the 32 boxes facing the track will each have six seats and will give our guests another unique location to spend the afternoon watching the races."
Not to be left out, on Gulfstream's backstretch roofs have been replaced on a dozen barns.
"Along with constantly updating our main building, it's important we continue updating our barn area," Ritvo added. "Horsemen both locally and nationally have been enthusiastic supporters and partners of Gulfstream Park. Our relationship with the horsemen is very important and one we want to continue growing."
The 90-day winter meet begins Dec. 1 and runs through Friday, April 5. The track will offer 61 stakes worth better than $10 million highlighted by the $1 million Florida Derby which will be conducted for the 62nd time on Saturday, March 30.
