Nordqvist beats Blumenherst to win Mojo 6

Montego Bay, Jamaica (Sports Network) - Sweden's Anna Nordqvist bested a 16- player field to win the LPGA Tour's Mojo 6, defeating Amanda Blumenherst in the six-hole final on Friday to capture the lucrative top prize at the new match-play event.

Nordqvist edged Blumenherst, 1-up, to finish off a day in which she won three matches. The former major champion collected $350,000 of unofficial money for the victory.

Blumenherst, an LPGA Tour rookie, took second place while Cristie Kerr defeated Na Yeon Choi on the sixth playoff hole of the consolation match to earn third place.

Sixteen players began the tournament at Cinnamon Hill on Thursday, but only the top eight point-getters advanced to the quarterfinals on Friday morning.

Nordqvist defeated Christina Kim, 2-up, in the quarterfinals and beat Kerr on a playoff hole in the semis.

Blumenherst made the final after knocking off Brittany Lang, 1-up, in the quarters and edging past Choi on the first hole of a playoff in the semis.

Kerr, the top seed after Day 1, rolled to a 3-up win over Beatriz Recari in their quarterfinal match. Choi, who was the second seed, earned an eight-hole victory over Suzann Pettersen in the quarters.

While the higher seed won each of the four quarterfinal matches Friday, the lower seed won both semifinals, leaving the fourth-seeded Nordqvist and third- seeded Blumenherst to contest the final.
