Blumenherst wins LPGA Tour Q-School|
Daytona Beach, FL (Sports Network) - Amanda Blumenherst shot a four-under 68
on Monday to win the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament, leading a list of 20
players who gained tour cards for next season.
Blumenherst, the 2008 U.S. Women's Amateur champion, finished five rounds at
LPGA International with a nine-under 351. She claimed $5,000 for the win.
"Coming into the last few days I was very confident in how I was playing,"
said Blumenherst. "I just stayed in the fairway and got onto the greens and my
putts were close. It was a winning combination."
Fourth-round leader Marianne Skarpnord (71) and Katie Kempter (68) shared
second place at seven-under 353, while former LPGA winner Julieta Granada (67)
ended at six-under 354.
"I don't think it has settled yet," Kempter said of earning her tour card for
the first time. "I could go play another 20 holes of golf right now."
Players who finished in the top 20 earned their tour cards and Priority List
Category 11 privileges. They will alternate with Nos. 81-100 on last year's
money list for entry into 2010 tournaments.
Among those finishing in the top 20 on Monday were former European No. 1
Gwladys Nocera and the player Blumenherst defeated to win the '08 Women's
Amateur, Azahara Munoz.
Il Hee Lee defeated Christi Cano in a playoff for the 20th and final spot in
Players who finished in positions 21-30 at Q-school earned Category 16 status
for next season, while Nos. 31-40 were placed in Category 20.
The rain-delayed tournament finished a day later than scheduled.
