NOTES
This week`s Women`s British Open will be the fourth and final major on the LPGA Tour this season. The Women`s British has been an LPGA Tour event since 1994, but only became a major in 2001. Royal Lytham & St. Annes will host the championship for the fourth time since 1998. Jiyai Shin, who was not an official LPGA Tour member at the time, won her first LPGA Tour crown and first major championship at Sunningdale last year. Shin opened and closed with rounds of six-under 66 en route to a three-stroke win over Yani Tseng. Shin, who has since become a full-time member on the LPGA Tour, has won four more events since, including two earlier this year. Since this championship was added as a major, no one has won the title more than once. However, since it was added to the schedule in 1994, Sherri Steinhauer and Karrie Webb have won the championship three times. With Brittany Lincicome winning the Kraft Nabisco Championship, Anna Nordqvist claiming the McDonald`s LPGA Championship and Eun Hee Ji coming out on top at the U.S. Women`s Open, there have been six straight first-time major champions on the LPGA Tour. Prior to that stretch, women`s world No. 1 Lorena Ochoa had won back-to-back majors. She won this championship in 2007 and followed by winning the Kraft Nabisco at the start of the `08 season. Annika Sorenstam completed the career grand slam when she won this title in 2003. Like the British Open Championship and the Senior British Open, TNT and ABC will split coverage of the Women`s British Open. The LPGA Tour is off for two weeks before the best from Europe and the United States will battle at the Solheim Cup in Illinois. The following week the tour returns to action in Oregon with the Safeway Classic, where Cristie Kerr won last year.
