* - Defending Champion
It`s pretty simple for Bernhard Langer this week: finished no worse than a two-way tie for fourth and win the $1 million bonus for the Charles Schwab Cup. Langer owns a 582-point lead over Fred Couples in the points race for that bonus. The German has won five times this season, including back-to-back majors at the Senior British and U.S. Senior Opens. He is not the defending champion this week, however. That honor belongs to John Cook, who set a number of records en route to his five-shot win last year. Cook fired a course-record 62 in second round. He also set the 54-hole scoring mark for a 72-hole event (197) and the tournament scoring record (266). Cook and Langer headline a field of the top 30 money winners on tour this season. As Cook defends his title, Loren Roberts returns as champion of last year`s season-long Charles Schwab Cup race. Even with 880 points available this week, only Couples and Langer can win the Cup. Russ Cochran is third in the season-long race, but is over 1,000 points behind Couples for the No. 2 spot. Golf Channel has live coverage from 4:30-7 p.m. (et) all week. The only remaining event for the Champions Tour this season is the tour`s Qualifying School, which runs from November 16-19.
