Hoffmann moves in front at WNB Golf Classic

Midland, TX (Sports Network) - Morgan Hoffmann posted an 8-under-par 64 on Friday to take the second-round lead of the WNB Golf Classic at Midland Country Club.

Hoffmann finished 36 holes at 12-under 132 and is three strokes clear.

Danny Lee, who defeated Harris English to win this title last year, fired a 9- under 63 on Friday and jumped into a tie for second with first-round co-leader Jamie Lovemark, who had a 3-under 69. The pair is knotted at 9-under par.

Craig Bowden (65) and Cameron Percy (68) share fourth at minus-8.

Hoffmann, a Monday qualifier, birdied the second hole, then eagled the par-5 fourth. He finished his opening nine with a bogey at eight and a birdie at nine.

Hoffman, who leads the field in driving distance, recorded his second eagle of the round at the par-5 12th. He birdied No. 14 and polished off his 64 with back-to-back birdies at 17 and 18.

"I'm playing the best golf of my life," said Hoffmann. "I'm just trying to go out there and try to have fun and not think about anything."

Hoffmann turned pro after his junior year at Oklahoma State, but has no status on any tour. A change in attitude has shown in Hoffmann's performance this week.

"I felt a lot more pressure and felt like I had to live up to expectations," admitted Hoffmann. "I was just trying to hit it too close and put too much pressure on certain shots. I felt like I needed to make putts. It's a huge learning experience for me and so I'm trying to be relaxed over every shot. It's such a big change from when I first went out - my attitude was that I needed to be on the PGA Tour right now. When you turn pro you need to be on the PGA Tour. It's not like that."

Matt Harmon (66) and D.J. Brigman (68) are tied for sixth at 7-under 137.

Luke List, who is second on the Web.com Tour money list, shot a 1-under 71 and is knotted in eighth with Justin Hicks (70), Erik Compton (70), last week's Boise Open winner Luke Guthrie (66), Tim Wilkinson (71) and Bubba Dickerson (68). The group is at 6-under 138.

NOTES: Hoffmann is winless on the Web.com Tour ... Lee can become the first player in tour history to successfully defend a title ... Brenden Pappas withdrew before Friday's round ... First-round co-leader Aaron Goldberg struggled to a 1-over 73 on Friday and fell into a tie for 14th at 5- under ... The 36-hole cut fell at 1-under par.
