Killmer, Covello share 6-shot lead in Winnipeg

Winnipeg, MB (Sports Network) - Chris Killmer carded a 1-under 70, while Vince Covello fired a 5-under 66 Saturday, as they ended Saturday tied for the lead after three rounds at the Canadian Tour Players Cup.

The duo, who were paired together in the third round, are all square at 13- under-par 200 and are six strokes clear of the field.

Trey Denton posted a 4-under 67 to move into a share of third place at 7- under-par 206. He was joined there by Matt Makinson (69) and David Lang (70).

Garrett Sapp and last week's winner Matt Hill both carded 1-under 70s and are tied for sixth at minus-6 at Pine Ridge Golf Club.

Killmer was four clear to start the round, but Covello birdied the first. The fourth proved to be a big swing. Killmer stumbled to a bogey on the par-5, while Covello made eagle.

The 3-stroke swing forged a tie for the lead. The pair both birdied the eighth to remain tied at 12-under. However, Covello dipped one back when he stumbled to a bogey on No. 9.

Covello atoned for that mistake with a birdie at the 11th. Killmer drained an 18-footer for birdie on the 14th and 2-putted for birdie on the par-5 15th to go two clear.

Killmer faltered to a bogey at the 16th to slip to 13-under. Covello joined him there with a tap-in birdie at the last.

NOTES: Killmer and Covello are both winless on the Canadian Tour...Makinson needs a finish of solo 11th or better to get off his medical extension...The tee times were moved up for the final round due to weather concerns.
