NCAA Game Summary - ULM at FIU
(Saturday, November 24)
Final Score: ULM 23, FIU 17 (OT)
Miami, FL (Sports Network) - A 15-yard touchdown pass from Kolton Browning to Brent Leonard in overtime was exactly what the Warhawks of ULM needed as they grabbed the 23-17 win over the Panthers of FIU in a Sun Belt Conference matchup at FIU Stadium.
Browning finished the contest 31-of-38 for 218 yards, but was sacked four times which left the Warhawks (8-4, 6-2 Sun Belt) with a mere nine net rushing yards in the outing. However, Browning did make it into the end zone on one of his 17 rushing attempts.
The Panthers (3-9, 2-6) were paced by E.J. Hilliard who converted 22-of-31 passes for 226 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the triumph. But, just like Browning, Hilliard was also under pressure quite a bit and was sacked six times.
The only scoring of the first quarter came courtesy of Browning who made his way into the end zone on a two-yard run.
The teams traded scores throughout the affair which meant FIU was next up with an 11-yard TD pass from Hilliard to De'Andre Jasper to knot the score at 7-7.
With only one second remaining in the first half, ULM kicker knocked through a 47-yard field goal to provide the visitors with a slim 10-7 edge at the break.
In the third quarter FIU's kicker got in on the act as Jack Griffin booted a 22-yard effort.
Late in the third the defense for the Warhawks made a statement as R.J. Young scored on a 36-yard fumble return, again giving the edge back to ULM at 17-10.
With just 14 seconds left in regulation, Hilliard managed to move the ball 58 yards with a quick TD strike to Willis Wright, locking the score at 17-17 as they headed to overtime where Leonard played the hero for the Warhawks.
