NCAA Game Summary - Portland at BYU

Provo, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by a game-high 30 points from Matt Carlino, the BYU Cougars took down the Portland Pilots, 89-72, in a West Coast Conference showdown at the Marriott Center.
Carlino was deadly from deep, nailing 8-of-13 from 3-point distance for the Cougars (20-10, 12-5 WCC), winners of three-straight. Anson Winder added 19 points, Tyler Haws scored 15, and Kyle Collinsworth pulled down 11 rebounds and dished out seven assists in the win, their 11th straight at home this season.
Ryan Nicholas led the Pilots (15-13, 7-9) with 17 points, while Bobby Sharp finished with 16 points, Thomas van der Mars scored 11 and Bryce Pressley scored 10.
BYU was red-hot to start the game, knocking down 54.8 percent of its shots from the field, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, as the Cougars took a 46-33 lead into the break. Portland shot just 39.4 percent from the field in the first but did hit on 4-of-10 from 3-point range in the opening stanza.
After the break, the Cougars continued to drain their shots at a dizzying clip, shooting 57.1 percent and 5-of-12 from deep. Just like the first, the Pilots again shot 39.4 percent from the field, but again were effective from long range, hitting on 5-of-11 from 3-point distance. BYU pushed its lead to as many as 25 points in the second half as the team coasted to victory.
BYU dominated down low, outscoring Portland in the paint, 38-18. Portland had the edge on the glass, outrebounding BYU 41-35. BYU also got 42 points from its bench, compared to 18 for Portland.
