No. 1 Stanford women routed by UConn

Stanford, CA (Sports Network) - The most anticipated game of the 2012-13 women's college basketball season proved to be no contest at all.

Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis scored a game-high 19 points and Connecticut put forth a dominating defensive display that propelled the second-ranked Huskies to a authoritative 61-35 victory over No. 1 Stanford at Maples Pavilion, ending the Cardinal's 82-game home winning streak in the process.

Stefanie Dolson compiled 10 points and 14 rebounds to help Connecticut (12-0) almost certainly overtake the Cardinals for the top spot in Monday's polls, but it was the Huskies' efforts on the other end that made the biggest difference.

UConn held Stanford to a brutal 19.3 (11-of-57) shooting percentage from the field and forced 14 turnovers in leading virtually start-to-finish, with the Cardinal mustering a mere 13 points in the first half.

Chiney Ogwumike amassed 18 points and 13 rebounds for Stanford (11-1), but hit on just 6-of-22 field goal attempts. Joslyn Tinkle, the Cardinals' second- leading scorer, managed only two points on 1-of-5 shooting.

Stanford hadn't been dealt a defeat at Maples Pavilion since a 68-61 setback to Florida State on Mar. 19, 2007.

After the teams battled to a 5-5 tie early on, Connecticut embarked on a 24-4 run over the next 13-plus minutes to build a commanding 20-point advantage. Stanford would make just five baskets in 33 tries over the duration of the first half in falling behind by a 31-13 score at the break.

UConn maintained a comfortable lead the rest of the way, with the margin growing to as many as 27 points after an 8-0 spurt put the Huskies on top 61-34 entering the final three minutes.
