Omaha, NE (Sports Network) - University of South Carolina sophomore first baseman Christian Walker scored the winning run in Monday's game against Florida despite having a hamate fracture in his left wrist.

Walker came in on a pair of throwing errors in the top of the 11th inning, sending the Gamecocks to a 2-1 win and a lead over the Gators after the opener of their best-of-three national championship series.

Walker underwent a CT scan and X-ray on Monday morning, which revealed the injury.

Despite the break and a heavily-wrapped wrist, Walker started Monday in the opener of the best-of-three championship series against Florida. He doubled on the first pitch he saw, in the opening inning off Hudson Randall and finished with two hits on the night.

Walker apparently injured his wrist during an at-bat in Friday night's 13- inning win over Virginia.

"I knew it was going to take a lot of pain specifically for me not to play," said Walker. I can't say enough about (South Carolina athletic trainer) Brainard Cooper and Dr. (John) Walsh and Dr. (Chris) Mazoue (of USC Orthopedics & Sports Medicine) and (also) everybody at Methodist Hospital for doing everything they did. And you know, for the last half of yesterday, I think I didn't think I was going to be able to play. But you know, they came out and really - I mean I'm speechless about it. They did a great job. I can't thank them enough."
