(Saturday, November 3)
Final Score: South Florida 13, Connecticut 6
Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - A five-yard touchdown run by B.J. Daniels in he first quarter was the only trip into the end zone the entire night for either team as the South Florida Bulls held off the Connecticut Huskies, 13-6, in Big East Conference action at Raymond James Stadium.
Daniels finished with just 23 net rushing yards on 10 attempts for the Bulls (3-6, 1-4 Big East) but also converted 19-of-29 passes for 199 yards in order to snap the program's longest losing streak at six games.
UConn (3-6, 0-4) was paced by Chandler Whitmer who converted 24-of-38 passes for 284 yards, but he was picked off twice and sacked four times as the team suffered a fourth-straight setback.
The touchdown run by Daniels capped off an eight-play, 80-yard drive in the first frame which used up more than three minutes on the clock.
Scoring opportunities were few and far between the entire evening, with the only points in the second quarter coming on a 50-yard field goal by UConn's Chad Christen with two seconds left before the break.
The Huskies closed the gap even more in the third when Christen struck again, this time from 37 yards out, to make the score 7-6 heading into the final frame.
The only points in the fourth were provided by USF kicker Maikon Bonani who converted field goal attempts of 28 and 50 yards in order to secure the seven- point win for the hosts.
UConn, which has been held to two touchdowns or less in each of the last four outings, came into this week ranked eighth in the conference and 116th in the nation in scoring with an average of just 17.9 ppg.
