Tulsa, OK (Sports Network) - Alex Singleton rushed for 64 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner, to lift the Tulsa Golden Hurricane to a 28-24 victory over the Rice Owls in a Conference USA battle at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

Kalen Henderson completed just 8-of-23 attempts for 201 yards with a touchdown and interception for Tulsa (7-1, 5-0 C-USA), but Ja'Terian Douglas moved the chains consistently by rushing for 169 yards and a touchdown on only 17 carries. Dexter McCoil anchored the defense with 13 tackles, a fumble recovery, and an interception. Keyarris Garrett had a big day with three receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown as the Golden Hurricane picked up their seventh win in a row.

Taylor McHargue struggled under center for Rice, (2-6, 0-4) throwing for only 147 yards, a touchdown, and an interception on 15-of-35 passing. Luke Turner gained 102 yards on 15 carries and Sam McGuffie reeled in a game-high eight catches for 62 yards. Julius White made eight total stops, one tackle for loss, and an interception. The Owls have lost five of their last six games.

The Owls' special teams unit made an impact early as Cole Way blocked a punt. McGuffie scooped it up and returned it 12 yards for a score to give Rice a 7-0 lead just four minutes after kickoff.

The Golden Hurricane rebounded and Singleton gave them their first points by rushing a yard into the end zone at the midway point of the first quarter.

The second period had back and forth action in its early stages. Rice's offense made its mark in the opening minute of the second quarter as McHargue rushed 20 yards up the middle across the goal line to make it 14-7.

Tulsa wasted no time answering as Douglas scored on a 28-yard touchdown run less than a minute later.

McHargue then completed an eight-yard touchdown pass to Luke Willson to give the Owls a 21-14 advantage with just under 11 minutes before the break. Neither side managed to score again before the half.

After both defenses held their ground for the majority of the third quarter, Henderson completed a 28-yard touchdown pass to Keyarris Garrett to tie the score, 21-21.

The Owls jumped back in front in the fourth quarter as Chris Boswell connected on a 35-yard field goal.

Singleton then put Tulsa ahead for good with a one-yard touchdown run with only 1:31 remaining.

Rice's chances slipped away when Jordan Taylor fumbled with just over a minute left in regulation.

Tulsa gained 436 total yards of offense while Rice tallied 393 yards of total offense.
