Final Score: Kent State 31, Army 17
West Point, NY (Sports Network) - Dri Archer rushed for a career-high, 222 yards, on just 12 carries as he led Kent State to 31-17 victory over Army at Michie Stadium.
Archer showed off some versatility while leading the Golden Flashes (5-1). He also had a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown to go with his great rushing performance. Spencer Keith was 6-of-11 for 60 yards and a touchdown in the air while Trayion Durham add 65 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries on the ground. Eric Adeyemi and Keith each had a receiving touchdown as Kent State won its third game in a row.
For Army (1-5), Trent Steelman completed 5-of-9 passes for 66 yards and no touchdowns while A.J. Schurr threw for 66 yards and a touchdown on 5-of-11 passing. Steelman rushed for 66 yards on 19 carries. Malcolm Brown rushed for 92 yards and touchdown on 11 attempts and Raymond Maples added 80 yards on 19 attempts. Chevaughn Lawrence had 88 receiving yards on 6 catches as Patrick Laird had the only touchdown reception for the Black Knights.
It took until the second quarter but then Kent State got things going. With some trickery Archer threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Keith to put the Golden Flashes up first.
Later in the quarter Keith found Eric Adeyemi for a 30-yard touchdown pass to give Kent State a 14-0 advantage as the game went into halftime.
In the second half the Golden Flashes continued their scoring streak as Freddy Cortez hit a 28-yard field goal.
Army finally got itself on the scoreboard with 3:12 left in the third quarter when Dan Grochowski kicked in a 37-yard field goal.
Kent State responded with a two-yard touchdown run by Durham to make the score 24-3.
In the fourth frame, Brown scored the first touchdown of the game for the Black Knights as he capped off a ten-play, 81-yard drive with a five-yard run across the goal line.
Kent State answered again as Archer broke open for a huge 87-yard touchdown run that made the score 31-10.
Schurr then found Patrick Laird for a six-yard touchdown pass. The Black Knights' second touchdown finalized the scoring with the home team trailing, 31-17.
Despite the loss, Army gained 457 yards of total offense and held Kent State to 367 yards.
