FACTS & STATS: Site: Hynes Center (2,611) -- New Rochelle, New York. Television: None. Home Record: Marist 0-1, Iona 2-0. Away Record: Marist 0-3, Iona 1-2. Neutral Record: Marist 0-3, Iona 0-0. Conference Record: Marist 0-0, Iona 0-0. Series Record: Iona leads, 38-16.
GAME NOTES: Marist, still looking for its first win after a fruitless trip to the Virgin Islands, will visit the Iona Gaels on Wednesday in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action.
The Red Foxes had their work cut out for them in the Paradise Jam, losing to Maryland, Loyola Marymount and previously winless Morgan State.
The Nov. 25 loss to Morgan State was a back-and-forth affair that went the Bears' way thanks to the Red Foxes going 1-of-5 from the field with three turnovers in the extra period.
Marist was led by Jay Bowie, who shot 8-of-11 from the floor to finish with a team-high 22 points. Five of his eight made field goals came from beyond the arc. Also scoring in double digits for the Red Foxes were Chavaughn Lewis (15), Adam Kemp (12) and Khallid Hart (10).
Lewis paces the club with 15.3 ppg, which is more than a quarter of the team's lackluster 56.1 ppg average. Marist is making just 33.6 percent of its shots, while opponents are connecting on 47.9 percent of theirs. The Red Foxes are also getting outrebounded by nearly eight boards per contest.
Iona, the reigning MAAC champion, has won two in a row following its 90-72 throttling of Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday. Tre Bowman scored a career-high 29 points thanks to an 11-of-13 effort from the field, and Sean Armand chipped in 20 points while making five of the club's 14 3-pointers in the convincing victory.
Armand is hitting an impressive 52.2 percent of his shots on the season en route to a team-high 20.2 ppg. David Laury checks in with 14.4 ppg while leading the team in rebounds (8.4 rpg) and steals. Bowman and A.J. English round out the leading scorers with 13.0 and 12.6 ppg, respectively.
Marist was the last opponent to walk out victorious in New Rochelle, defeating the Gaels 105-104 in two overtimes last February. A similar outcome is not likely this time around. In fact, Iona should win with relative ease.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Iona 80, Marist 55
