NCAA Game Summary - Canisius vs. Iona (Saturday, March 9) Final Score: Iona 89, Canisius 85 Springfield, MA (Sports Network) - Lamont Jones scored a game-high 33 points as the Iona Gaels held on to defeat the Canisius Golden Griffins, 89-85, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference quarterfinal action at the MassMutual Center. Sean Armand added 24 points for the Gaels (18-13). Taaj Ridley contributed 13 points and five rebounds. David Laury recorded a double-double with 10 points and 14 boards. Iona will go on to face the Niagara Purple Eagles in the semifinals. For the Golden Griffins (18-13), Billy Baron scored a team-high 24 points. Harold Washington chipped in 17 points and five assists, while Jordan Heath and Chris Manhertz added 13 points apiece. Alshwan Hymes put up 11 points off the bench. In the first half, Canisius made 6-of-12 from the foul line. Iona knocked down 15-of-18 free-throws, en route to the 42-37 advantage at the break. In the second, both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor. Canisius made 6-of-9 foul shots, while Iona made 19-of-22 as it took the four-point victory.
