(Sunday, December 16) Final Score: DePaul 69, Northern Illinois 64 Rosemont, IL (Sports Network) - Brandon Young scored 15 points and handed out five assists to help lead the DePaul Blue Demons to a 69-64 win over the Northern Illinois Huskies in non-conference play at Allstate Arena. Also scoring in double figures for the Blue Demons (8-3), as they won for the sixth time in as many games, were Jamee Crockett and Cleveland Melvin with 14 and 12 points, respectively. The Huskies (2-7) were paced by Abdel Nader who tallied a game-high 20 points and also tied for the game high with six rebounds, but still NIU was turned away for the second straight game. Akeem Springs checked in with 11 points in 17 minutes off the bench, but at the same time was charged with six turnovers. A tight game throughout, the Huskies led by as many as four points late in the first half, but because they allowed the hosts to shoot 52.0 percent from the floor in the period, it was DePaul that moved out to a 33-31 edge at the break. In the second half the Blue Demons pulled ahead by seven at the 15:09 mark, but in a game that featured 10 ties and 14 lead changes, DePaul had to hold on down the stretch to keep its win streak alive. Northern Illinois won the battle of the boards, 39-29, but the team was guilty of 22 turnovers and was outscored at the free-throw line by a 21-7 margin. 12/16 19:59:10 ET Powered by The Sports Network. |
