Final Score: Miami-Florida 68, North Carolina 59

Chapel Hill, NC (Sports Network) - Led by 18 points and nine rebounds from Kenny Kadji, the Miami-Florida Hurricanes took down the North Carolina Tar Heels, 68-59, in an ACC bout at the Smith Center.

For the Hurricanes (11-3, 2-0 ACC), Julian Gamble added 14 points, while Shane Larkin and Durand Scott each chipped in 11. Miami beat UNC for just the third time in 21 tries and the first since 2006.

James Michael McAdoo finished with 14 points to lead the Tar Heels (10-5, 0-2), while Reggie Bullock scored 11 points and Marcus Paige and Brice Johnson each chipped in with 10.

UNC shot 48.1 percent from the field in the first half, knocking down 4-of-8 from beyond the 3-point arc, as it took a 32-30 advantage into halftime. Miami remained close by shooting 46.2 percent from the floor, but just 4-of-12 beyond the arc.

The Tar Heels went cold from the floor after the intermission, making only 33.3 percent of their field goal attempts, including 2-of-7 on 3-point tries. The Hurricanes continued to knock down shots, connecting on 48.1 percent of their field goal attempts after halftime, including 5-of-14 from long distance.

Miami held a slim lead, 56-55, with five minutes remaining, but the Tar Heels would not score again until there was less than a minute remaining, as the Hurricanes scored eight straight points to secure the victory and ensure their first 2-0 start in conference play since joining the ACC in the 2004-2005 season.

Miami, which was again without Reggie Johnson who is sidelined with a thumb injury, had the edge in the paint as it outscored UNC, 26-22. The Hurricanes were able to score 14 points off of 11 Tar Heel turnovers.
