Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Johnathan Gray scored 16 points to lead five Big Red players in double-figures as Cornell coasted to an 89-55 rout of the Presbyterian Blue Hose in the Las Vegas Invitational at Orleans Arena.
Nolan Cressler scored 14 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor for Cornell (2-4), which advances to play Longwood on Saturday. Devin Cherry and Eitan Chemerinski netted 13 points each while Shonn Miller added 10 points and three steals in the win.
Khalid Mutakabbir scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds for Presbyterian (0-5), which will take on Florida A&M in the consolation round on Saturday. Jordan Downing went 4-of-16 from the field to score 14 points in the losing effort.
Gray gave the Big Red a 3-0 lead on their opening possession and they never looked back. Cornell made 53.3 percent of its attempts from the floor in the opening 20 minutes to take a sizeable 45-28 lead into the intermission. The Blue Hose fell behind after they allowed 11 second chance points in the first half.
The Big Red converted 60.7 percent of their shots from the floor, including 7- of-15 from beyond the arc, to cruise to the double-digit victory.
Cornell's bench scored 44 points in the contest, while Presbyterian's reserves managed to produce just eight points.
