NCAA Game Summary - Loyola Marymount at SMU

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - All five SMU starters tallied double figures in points as the Mustangs won head coach Larry Brown's first collegiate game since 1988 by defeating the Loyola Marymount Lions, 73-58, at Moody Coliseum.

Nick Russell led all scorers with 19 points for SMU (1-0), while Jalen Jones recorded a true double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Ryan Manuel (14 points), Shawn Williams (12 points) and Cannen Cunningham (10 points) rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Mustangs.

For Loyola (1-1), Anthony Ireland tallied 17 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists. Ashley Hamilton put up 16 points and seven boards, and Ayodeji Egbeyemi nailed four three-pointers en route to 14 points.

The game was tied, 17-17, midway through the first half, but SMU ended the frame on an 18-9 run to go up 35-26 heading into intermission.

The Mustangs connected on just 9-of-27 field goals after halftime, but they never surrendered the lead. They were able to keep their pace by draining 20- of-24 from the free throw line.

SMU held the advantage on the boards, 38 to 31. Loyola committed 14 turnovers, five of which came from Ireland.
