(Thursday, January 19th)

Final Score: Jacksonville State 63, Tennessee Tech 62

Cookeville, TN (Sports Network) - Dion Waiters buried a three-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Jacksonville State Gamecocks to a thrilling 63-62 victory over the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles in an Ohio Valley Conference battle at the Eblen Center.

Tarvin Gaines netted 15 points to lead all scorers in the win for JSU (7-14, 2-6 OVC), which also got 11 points off the bench from Darion Rackley to go with a 10-point effort by Brian Williams.

Jud Dillard finished with a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead the way for Tech (11-8, 3-3), while Javon McKay checked in from the bench to tally 15 points in 18 minutes.

A 52.0 percent shooting effort during the opening 20 minutes of play earned the Gamecocks a 37-29 advantage at the break.

The Golden Eagles stepped things up defensively during the second frame, however, holding JSU to a meager 33.3 percent clip while netting 18-of-23 at the foul line themselves. Tech owned a four-point edge with 15 seconds to go, but a trey from Williams with eight seconds remaining cut that lead to one and set the stage for Waiters and his last-second heroics.

The Golden Eagles shot at a marginal 42.6 percent pace during the contest, a mark that included just 1-of-9 from long range.
