GAME NOTES: Sun Belt Conference play will take place this evening at the Lakefront Arena when the New Orleans Privateers host the Denver Pioneers.
The last time Denver was on the floor the team pushed its conference mark to 8-7 on the year with a 62-57 victory over Arkansas-Little Rock. It was just the third win in the last nine games for Denver, which is a terrible 1-10 on the road this year.
The Privateers snapped a seven-game skid with an 82-73 victory over UL-Monroe on Thursday. It was just the third league win for New Orleans, which has captured six of its eight victories at home.
The Privateers own a commanding, 20-6 edge over Denver in the all-time series, but the Pioneers have made a small push by winning the last two meetings, including a 75-66 victory earlier this season.
The last time the Pioneers were on the floor the team only scored 62 points, but still managed to grab a victory over Arkasnas-Little Rock. Denver shot 50.0 percent from the floor in the contest and was led by Brian Stafford and his 22-point performance. Nate Rohnert added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Chase Hallam also tallied 11 points. Denver has not been overwhelming offensively this season, as the team is netting just 65.8 ppg, despite shooting a staggering 49.8 percent from the floor. Pacing the squad on the year has been Rohnert, who is averaging 14.8 ppg, 4.9 rpg and 102 assists. Stafford is the only other player netting double figures, as the guard comes into this game with 12.4 ppg.
The Privateers put forth one of their best showings at the offensive end of the floor in their last contest, as the team scored 82 points in a victory over UL-Monroe. New Orleans shot a staggering 61.7 percent from the field in the win and that included a 6-of-11 showing from behind the arc. Devin McDonald led the way with 24 points in the win, while Charles Carmouche added 21 points and eight rebounds. Johann Mpondo chipped in with 13 points for UNO. Despite the sensational effort in their win over UL-Monroe, the Privateers have still struggled overall offensively, as the team is netting just 59.5 ppg, behind a lackluster 40.3 percent shooting effort. Carmouche is the only player netting double figures, as the guard is posting 12.9 ppg, to go along with 4.6 rpg.
The Privateers are coming off a rare victory, but considering how badly Denver has been on the road, New Orleans has a great chance of collecting a second straight win.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: New Orleans 63, Denver 59
