Own goal sends Tigres to Mexican Apertura final

Monterrey, Mexico (Sports Network) - Tigres advanced to the Mexican Apertura final after an own goal from Manuel Lopez Mondragon gave the team a 1-0 win over Queretaro in the second leg of their semifinal playoff.

The two sides finished 0-0 in the first leg at Queretaro, but the only goal of the semifinal arrived in the 44th minute in an embarrassing moment for Mondragon.

Tigres forward Damian Alvarez delivered a cross from the left wing that skipped through the face of goal to Mondragon at the back post.

However, instead of bringing the ball down and clearing it, Mondragon leaned down and tried to head the ball, redirecting it into his own net.

Queretaro goalkeeper Liborio Sanchez kept his team in the match when he saved a penalty kick from Hector Mancilla, but Tigres held on to advance to the final against Santos, with the first leg taking place on Thursday.
