Description: Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune is reporting that Kyuji Kujikawa will take over for Carlos Marmol as the team's closer.
Insight: Marmol blew the save Saturday in Atlanta and has now allowed two or more runs in his last two outings. This isn't the first time Marmol has lost the closer's job and it's still possible that he could return to his ninth inning role later on in the year. Marmol has always been a high risk, high reward fantasy option. Lately, however, there's been much more risk than reward.

Cold4/6/2013 11:00:00 PM
Description: The Carlos Marmol rollercoaster took another turn Saturday against the Braves as the Cubs righty blew a save by allowing a solo homer to each Upton brother in the bottom of the ninth.
Insight: Marmol has allowed six hits, two walks and five earned runs in 1 2/3 innings over three appearances. However, potential replacement Kyuji Fujikawa gave up three runs on four hits and a walk in the eighth inning Saturday, so this situation is as messy as ever.

Cold4/4/2013 7:01:00 PM
Description: Cubs closer Carlos Marmol nearly blew a save Thursday against the Pirates. He entered with a three-run lead and allowed two runs on three hits and one walk but finished the game off.
Insight: That comes on the heels of getting pulled from a save chance for Kyuji Fujikawa on Opening Day. He probably would have been yanked Thursday as well if Fujikawa hadn't already pitched in the eighth. With Fujikawa in the fold, Marmol doesn't appear long for this job.

Cold4/1/2013 4:58:00 PM
Description: Cubs closer Carlos Marmol was pulled in the ninth inning after allowing three of the first four batters to reach base.
Insight: That's not how you want to start the season. Kyuji Fukijama will be a player to watch in fantasy if Marmol's struggles continue.

12/7/2012 10:13:00 PM
Description: Chicago general manager Jed Hoyer insists Carlos Marmol is still the club's closer despite signing Japanese reliever Kyuji Fujikawa earlier this offseason.
Insight: The endorsement should do a lot for Marmol's confidence but he's still far from a top-tier fantasy closer. The 30-year-old is only worth a late round flier in fantasy leagues.

11/2/2012 11:06:00 PM
Description: Cubs reliever Carlos Marmol is not going to the Angels after all. The reported Dan Haren for Marmol deal has been pulled off the table by the Cubs, according to FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.
Insight: The Chicago Sun-Times reported earlier Friday that Marmol had been traded for Haren but the deal has fallen apart. There's no indication of whether Chicago will continue to explore a trade for Haren but Marmol has shown that he's willing to waive his no-trade clause.

6/15/2012 7:51:00 PM
Description: The Cubs have gone full circle and promoted Carlos Marmol back to the closer role.
Insight: Marmol (5.79 ERA) saved Friday's game, but not before Boston loaded the bases with a walk, a hit and an error. Owning Marmol is not for those with a weak stomach, but make the add if you need saves.

5/28/2012 9:34:00 PM
Description: Carlos Marmol has been activated from the disabled list. He had been out since May 11th with a hamstring injury.
Insight: Marmol (6.35 ERA) lost his closer's job at the start of the month and he still hasn't won it back yet. Expect Marmol to be limited to a middle relief role upon his return, meaning that his fantasy value is almost nonexistent right now.

5/9/2012 9:48:00 AM
Description: According to the Cubs' official website, manager Dale Sveum said that Carlos Marmol won't necessarily get his closer job back if his replacements pitch well.
Insight: Rafael Dolis picked up the first save after Marmol was demoted, but Sveum made it a point to mention James Russell yesterday, so don't expect Dolis to receive 100 percent of the save opportunities.

5/4/2012 3:22:00 PM
Description: It didn't take long for manager Dale Sveum to make a decision concerning his closer. It won't be Carlos Marmol, at least for a little while.
Insight: Marmol's 6.23 ERA and 2.31 WHIP and two blown saves in 12 appearances are more than any manager would accept. The job will be shared for the time being between Rafael Dolis and James Russell.

5/3/2012 4:33:00 PM
Description: According to Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune, Dale Sveum is considering removing Carlos Marmol from the closer role after his latest ninth-inning meltdown on Thursday.
Insight: Marmol gave up three runs on one hit and three walks without getting an out. He wasn't in the game when the tying run was scored, so he doesn't get credited with the blown save, but obviously we know where the blame lies. Sveum said he'll use either Rafael Dolis or James Russell in the closer role. He's not considering Kerry Wood.

4/7/2012 5:06:00 PM
Description: Carlos Marmol blew the save against Washington on Saturday, giving up two hits and walking two without recording an out.
Insight: It's been a rough start to the season for Marmol. On Thursday, he received the loss in the Cubs season opener, and now he blew the game today. Marmol's wildness leaves him susceptible to blown saves, but he also hasn't struck out a batter yet in two appearances.

3/22/2012 8:58:00 PM
Description: After receiving positive MRI results on Tuesday, Carlos Marmol has been cleared to pitch again. He is expected to pitch in the Cubs' spring training game on Monday.
Insight: Now that he's been cleared to pitch again, it's back to business as usual for Marmol. Expect Marmol to be Chicago's Opening Day closer.

3/21/2012 10:25:00 PM
Description: Carlos Marmol's MRI Wednesday showed no significant nerve damage. Marmol got the MRI as a precaution after he felt a twinge in his neck Tuesday pitching against the Rangers.
Insight: As expected, Marmol's injury isn't anything serious. He'll rest up for a couple days but we'd be surprised if Marmol isn't back pitching again within a week.

3/21/2012 2:59:00 PM
Description: Carlos Marmol is expected to get a precautionary MRI after feeling cramps in his pitching hand.
Insight: It doesn't appear to be a serious injury at this time, but checking it out is best for the player, team and fantasy owners. Marmol is coming off a season where his strikeouts-per-inning dropped dramatically. His 11.81 spring training ERA can't be soothing his fantasy owners' nerves, but he has produced three consecutive scoreless outings since a slow start.

4/20/2011 5:55:00 PM
Description: Carlos Marmol worked the 9th against the Padres and gave up one run in a 1-0 game to blow a well pitched game by Matt Garza.
Insight: Luckily for Marmol the Cubs won in extras and Marmol has a decent length leash but you don't want to see too many of these start to pile up.

4/12/2011 8:53:00 AM
Description: Cubs closer Carlos Marmol locked up his 4th save of the season, allowing a hit and a walk in 1 1/3 innings of work, but striking out 3.
Insight: Marmol won't do your WHIP and ERA categories many favors but should be a solid source of saves and K's in 2011.

4/4/2011 6:39:00 PM
Description: One day after blowing his first save chance of the season, Carlos Marmol pitched a scoreless ninth inning and protected a three-run lead against Arizona.
Insight: He did walk a batter but didn't allow any hits. The Marmol rollercoaster continues to roll - get on at your own risk!

4/4/2011 5:42:00 AM
Description: Carlos Marmol blew his first save chance of the season yesterday. He allowed two ninth inning runs at home against the Pirates and took the loss.
Insight: This is what you expect from Marmol. He started off the inning with a walk and then a couple of weak hits cost him the save. Sometimes he will dominate and strike out the side and sometimes he will stink. You have to live with both sides of him, just like the Cubs do.

2/14/2011 2:04:00 PM
Description: Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago.com reports the Cubs and Marmol have agreed to a three-year contract extension.
Insight: Marmol had 38 saves with a 2.55 ERA along with 138 strikeouts over 77.2 innings in 2010. (RapidDraft.com)
