GAME NOTES: Coming off their first loss in seven weeks, the Penn State Nittany Lions will try to rebound against Big Ten Conference foe Purdue on Saturday afternoon at Ross-Ade Stadium.

Penn State suffered its first Big Ten loss of the season this past weekend, as sixth-ranked Ohio State proved too tough to handle in a 35-23 final. The loss was the Nittany Lions' first since Sept. 8, snapping a five-game win streak. Following this tilt, they'll travel to Nebraska next week before closing out their schedule with home games against Indiana and Wisconsin.

Meanwhile, Purdue is winless in four conference games. The Boilermakers are coming off their fourth loss in as many weeks this past Saturday, as they fell at Minnesota, 44-28. They'll hit the road to face Iowa and Illinois over the next two weeks, before wrapping up the regular season at home against Indiana in the Old Oaken Bucket Game.

The Nittany Lions have won the last five meetings with Purdue to take an 11-3-1 lead in the all-time series.

Despite missing a few open receivers, Penn State quarterback Matt McGloin threw for a career-high 327 yards and two touchdowns against Ohio State. McGloin finished with 27 completions, spreading the wealth to nine different receivers, although he did throw a third-quarter interception that was returned for a touchdown. It marked McGloin's third straight game with multiple touchdown passes, and he is now tied with Kerry Collins for the most 300-yard passing games in school history. For the most part, the Buckeyes were able to bottle up Nittany Lions' sophomore receiver and big-play threat Allen Robinson, who finished with 68 yards on five catches. On the season, Robinson has caught eight touchdown passes and leads the Big Ten in receptions per game (6.5), while ranking second with 78.9 receiving yards per tilt.

Penn State grabbed a 7-0 lead over OSU thanks to a blocked punt for a touchdown midway through the second quarter. But as the game wore on, the Nittany Lions had more and more trouble containing Buckeyes' signal-caller Braxton Miller, who threw for 143 yards and a touchdown, and ran for a game- high 134 yards and two more scores. Those two rushing TDs came late in the third quarter to extend OSU's lead to 28-10. Penn State linebackers Gerald Hodges and Michael Mauti notched 14 and 13 tackles, respectively, with Hodges also tallying a sack. Mauti's 13 stops tied a career-high. PSU ranks 18th nationally in scoring defense (18.1 ppg) and 22nd in total defense (329.5 ypg).

Purdue quarterback Caleb TerBursh was benched in the third quarter against Minnesota in favor of former starter Robert Marve. The switch came after TerBush, who was just 5-of-18 for 49 yards, threw an interception that was returned for a TD. Marve entered and completed 11-of-19 passes for 97 yards, leading the Boilermakers on a pair of third-quarter touchdown drives. He'll be under center when Purdue takes the field against Penn State. Another storyline entering the game is Antavian Edison, who will try to extend his streak to 30 consecutive games with a reception. Despite converting 9-of-18 third downs and scoring touchdowns on all three of their trips inside the red zone, the Boilermakers found themselves trailing 44-7 early in the second half. A season-high eight penalties certainly did not help their cause on either side of the ball.

Defensively, Purdue was led by Landon Feichter, who notched a pass breakup and a game-high eight tackles, including four solo. Feichter, a former walk-on, has four interceptions on the season, which are the most by any player at Purdue since Terrell Vinson picked off five passes in 2007. Josh Johnson also broke up a pass against Minnesota and finished with seven stops, six solo. Johnson has broken up a team-high nine passes this season, bringing his career total to 24. However, the Golden Gophers found big chunks of yardage through the air and on the ground against Purdue's defense. The Boilermakers could use a few more impact plays from guys like senior defensive tackle Kawann Short, who ranks among the national leaders with 42.5 career tackles for loss and 16.5 career sacks, as well as Ricardo Allen, who is tied for the FBS lead with four career interception returns for TDs.

Still eligible for a Big Ten Leaders Division crown, the Nittany Lions had plenty of motivation last week against unbeaten Ohio State. Can they dial up that same intensity this week in West Lafayette against a beatable Purdue squad?
