NCAA Game Summary - South Alabama at North Texas

Denton, TX (Sports Network) - Brandin Byrd picked up 109 yards and a touchdown
on the ground as the North Texas Mean Green rode a second-half surge to a
24-14 win over the South Alabama Jaguars during a Sun Belt Conference game at
Mean Green Stadium.
Jeremy Brown added 61 yards and a touchdown of his own for North Texas (4-6,
3-3 Sun Belt) which had lost back-to-back games. Derek Thompson completed only
12-of-28 pass attempts for 106 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
Ross Metheny completed 23-of-45 pass attempts for 233 yards and a touchdown
for South Alabama (2-8, 1-5). Jereme Jones brought in five of those passes for
a game-high 72 yards and a touchdown. Kendall Houston led the Jaguars on the
ground with 42 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.
Houston scored on a one-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter to
take a 7-0 lead. The score finished off a 13-play, 90-yard drive that lasted
almost five minutes.
North Texas' first score came much more rapidly with Brown scoring on a
51-yard touchdown run at the beginning of the second quarter. The score
finished off a drive that lasted only two plays.
Metheny pushed South Alabama back ahead, 14-7, with a 13-yard touchdown pass
to Jones.
Just before the half North Texas tied the game on a two-yard touchdown pass
from Thompson to Drew Miller.
Michael Chapuseaux missed a 28-yard field goal on South Alabama's first
possession of the second half.
On the second play of the next drive North Texas struck when Byrd scored on
an 85-yard touchdown run.
Zach Olen added a 33-yard field goal later in the quarter to push North Texas
to a 24-14 advantage.
With neither team able to score the rest of the way the Mean Green managed to
come away with the win.
South Alabama lost despite having twice as many first down as North Texas
(24-12) and a 366-303 edge in total yards.
