GAME NOTES: The Georgia Southern Eagles will look to serve up some revenge when they visit McAlister Field House for a Southern Conference tussle with the Citadel Bulldogs.

Citadel snapped a 12-game losing streak by notching a 70-55 road win when these teams met up in Statesboro, Georgia on Jan. 19. Still, Georgia Southern owns a 28-20 lead in the all-time series.

Entering this rematch, GSU has dropped three of its last four contests and has gone 2-4 since the first meeting. The Eagles are coming off a 71-62 setback to Western Carolina this past Saturday to wrap up a three-game homestand. Beginning tonight, four of the Eagles' six remaining regular-season games will be played on the road.

Citadel has also posted a 2-4 mark since the first meeting with GSU. Most recently, the Bulldogs fell at Samford over the weekend, 79-67, to wrap up a 1-2 road swing. Following this tilt, they'll stay on campus for a Saturday night showdown with Davidson.

Eagles head coach C.Y. Young was very disappointed with his team's showing against WCU, even calling the effort unacceptable. GSU shot just 36 percent from the floor, while the Catamounts shot 52.7 percent and also won the rebounding battle, 37-29. After the teams went into the half with the score tied 34-34, the Eagles made only 8-of-27 field goals over the final 20 minutes and trailed by as many as 15. C.J. Reed finished with a game-high 20 points, although he was the only starter in double figures for GSU. Brian Holmes chipped in with 13 points in 19 minutes off the bench. On the season, Reed leads the team in 3-pointers made (48-of-132) and is second in scoring (13.0 ppg). Eric Ferguson is GSU's top scorer (14.3 ppg) and rebounder (6.8 rpg), although he was held in check last Saturday as he finished with seven points and three turnovers.

For the better part of this season and last, senior center Mike Groselle has shouldered most of the scoring load for Citadel. Granted, he still leads the team in scoring (15.1 ppg) and rebounding (7.7 rpg) while shooting 57.7 percent from the floor. But over the past few weeks, the Bulldogs have leaned more on complementary scoring options such as freshman Matt Van Scyoc (11.4 ppg) and sophomore P.J. Horgan (10.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg). Scyoc has emerged as the team's best outside shooter (46-of-121 3-ptrs), while Horgan is shooting a healthy 58.7 percent from the floor to provide another weapon in the paint alongside Groselle. Against Samford last weekend, the Bulldogs knocked down 7- of-14 threes and went 24-of-27 from the foul line. However, they also committed 19 turnovers and allowed Samford to shoot a ridiculous 65.9 percent from the floor despite entering the contest with a 7-16 record.

The Citadel won the first meeting by 15 on the road. This time around, the Bulldogs will be playing at home against a GSU squad that is coming off a dismal effort on both ends of the floor.
