Murray, KY (Sports Network) - Isaiah Canaan scored 17 points and dished out
six assists to lead the Murray State Racers to a 70-49 triumph over the
Eastern Illinois Panthers in Ohio Valley Conference action at the CFSB Center.
Dexter Fields scored 12 points, all in the second half, on 4-of-9 from 3-point
range as MSU (13-4, 4-1 OVC) won its the second straight contest. Ed Daniel
narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points and nine boards.
Josh Piper and Sherman Blanford each netted 11 points to lead the Panthers
(3-16, 0-6), who extended one of the nation's longest losing streaks to 12
games.
The Racers jumped out to a 7-0 advantage to start the game and went on to lead
27-24 at intermission. Both teams shot less than 41 percent from the floor,
but Murray State led thanks to its effort on the glass, outrebounding the
Panthers, 16-10.
The second half belonged to the Racers, who shot 68.2 percent from the floor
and 9-of-12 from behind the arc to pull away.
Murray State got a boost from its reserves as they outscored EIU's bench,
24-13.
