Wichita, KS (Sports Network) - Cleanthony Early was one of five Wichita State
players in double-figure scoring with 16 points, as the Shockers earned a
74-62 Missouri Valley Conference win over the Illinois State Redbirds at
Charles Koch Arena.
Early was 5-of-11 from the field with five rebounds and two steals for the
Shockers (16-2, 5-1), who bounced back well after a loss to Evansville on
Sunday which ended their six-game win streak. Demetric Williams (14 points),
Jake White (11 points, five rebounds), Malcolm Armstead (10 points, five
rebounds, four steals), and Nick Wiggins (10 points) were the four other
Wichita State players in double-figure scoring. Carl Hall led the squad in
rebounding with 10 boards while Tekele Cotton led them in assists with seven.
Jackie Carmichael scored 22 points with nine rebounds for the Redbirds (9-9,
0-6), who have lost six in a row. Tyler Brown added 14 points while John
Wilkins and Bryant Allen managed 11 points each.
The Shockers were up 31-20 at halftime after holding ISU+ to just 24.0 percent
shooting from the field.
In the second half, WSU outscored the Redbirds 43-42, shooting 51.7 percent
from the floor.
The Shockers earned a 44-36 rebounding edge over ISU while forcing the
Redbirds into just 6-of-27 shooting from beyond the arc.
